Spotlight on 1 Stop Bead Shop by Softflex

1 Stop Bead Shop is being featured by Softflex in their Spotlight On...Store for January 2011. Enjoy the article below or go to the Softflex site here.

SPOTLIGHT ON ... STORE
January 2011

Our featured online bead store for this month is 1 Stop Bead Shop.

1 Stop Bead Shop, located in the quaint city of Dublin, Ohio has a mission - to be the recognized leader in their local community as the go-to source for all aspects of jewelry making. To provide superior customer service, the broadest product selection and the most innovative classes, embracing the beginner to advanced student in a community environment that feeds the individual and promotes the art.

The story of 1 Stop Bead Shop begins 7 years ago. Store owner, Lisa Busch was making jewelry and selling it at local craft shows and guiding make-it-and-take-it jewelry parties in local area homes. She became frustrated when beads that she used regularly in her designs and kits were not consistently available or even carried at all in her local bead store. That's where the idea for 1 Stop Bead Shop formed - a shop where a beader could get everything they needed. She has since discovered that's a pretty tall order (as there are "gajillions" of beads out there!). But, she keeps ordering and the store keeps growing.

Initially, 1 Stop Bead Shop's inventory consisted of a pretty large selection of the primary product lines: tools, books, semi-precious, Swarovski, Japanese seed beads, Silver and gold filled beads, findings, and wire, Czech glass, lampwork glass, etc. And now, 5 years later, its inventory is 5 times larger, adding many new product lines and expanding on all of the existing ones.

Teaching is another important aspect of 1 Stop Bead Shop. Because Lisa was already teaching beading, it was natural to start teaching at the store. Although Bead Weaving is her passion, with so many different techniques for making jewelry out there, she knew she couldn't teach them all. So, she went in search of other beaders, who shared her passion for passing on their knowledge to others. 1 Stop now has 26 instructors, teaching nearly 100 classes a quarter!

The icing on the cake at 1 Stop Bead Shop is the atmosphere. Lisa knew she wanted a really friendly, fun store. She envisioned the "Cheers of beading - a place where everyone knows your name!" Tables are set up in the store to encourage customers to "Come Sit and BEAD with Us!" She has had the pleasure of watching friendships form, grow and flourish around a common love of beading. She feels incredibly blessed to have watched her vision become a reality of not just a retail store being established, but a community of beaders created.

More about the Pick Your Peyote Class at 1 Stop Bead Shop

Learn to read a peyote stitch graph at 1 Stop Bead Shop!

A little more about the "Pick Your Peyote" bracelet class at 1 Stop Bead Shop.

Visiting instructor Hannah Rosner will be visiting the store and teaching classes after her trip to Bead & Button. She's received a few emails from customers requesting more information regarding our peyote stitch bracelet class. The answer to most of the questions is YES! There will be many patterns to choose from.

Beginners will learn peyote stitch, while intermediate level students will learn “fast peyote,” which does two rows at a time.

Then, choose your pattern from the many we have for you to pick from (photos below of just a few of them - there are many more!). Pick your delicas and come back to class to learn to read a peyote graph and start your project. Once again, intermediate level students will learn to apply “fast peyote” to graph reading. We will discuss many different finishing techniques. Students will not complete project in class.
